MAY 24, 2013 JUNE 7, 2013 JUNE 21, 2013 CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS Regularly scheduled Calexico City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month. These meetings are held at the Calexico Fernando "Nene" Torres Council Chambers, located at 608 Heber Avenue, at 6:30 p.m. City Council meetings are open to the public and your participation is essential.  CITY EVENTS “COMMUNITY HAPPENINGS”Fire Department: We are currently finalizing two Homeland Security Grants for FY 2010. The grants were funded last month and equipment has been ordered to satisfy the mission. The fire department roughly received $38,000 to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) and upgrade interoperable communication equipment,
Finance Department: Final report for the CAFR is ready and will be ready for presentation to the Council at the March 5 meeting. In addition, the single audit is on target for completion well before the March 31st deadline.
Community Services: Sports Summit at Calexico High School from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm, special guest speakers, including Gerald Robinson. Cost is free.
Public Works Department: Transportation Planning Grant: On 2/12/13 meeting was held with City staff to discuss potential grant submission. Direction was given to prepare the following grant application:
1. ADA Compliance Study for City Facilities and City right-of-ways 2. Underground Assessment Study 3. Update Bicycle Master Plan
Building Division: 1. Melrose Building: Building was damaged during the 2010 earthquake, needing to repair or remove damage frontage - Staff is working with owner on a possible loan.
2. Gran Plaza: Building permits have been issued. 3. Imperial & 8th Street: Commercial shell building - building permits have been issued.
Other Information: * Agreements have been reached with ALL bargaining units. * City Hall will be closed every Friday due to furloughs. * City will begin recruitment for new Chief of Police this week. * City Hall will be closed on April 1, 2013 due to the Cesar Chavez Holiday. Projects the City is currently working on: a. Gran Plaza b. Economic Development Administration Grant Project c. Mega Park d. Casino e. Las Palmas Mobile Home Park f.
